The Right Side of His Glory

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”

Habakkuk 2:14

When I think of glory, I think of the light of the sun shining through the clouds.  It seems to be a foreshadowing of the brilliance of Christ on His throne that I will see walking down the streets of gold in my Heavenly Home.  God’s glory is good.  When we see His mercy, He is glorified.  When we taste His goodness; smell the sweetness of His kindness, He is glorified.  At times, we bathe in His love when we have deserved to live in our own filth and He is glorified.  The glory of God is good, very good.  Well, I guess I could say that His glory is good if you are on the right side of His glory.

In Habakkuk, God is revealing the punishment that will fall on those who ignore Him and disobey Him.  He explains that His wrath will come and come harshly and through His wrath, He will be glorified.  When God brings His vengeance to those who have avoided it for so long, He is glorified.  The delay of His wrath allowed for the questioning of God’s sovereignty and power by skeptics.  But when He finally comes with the power of His right hand to right the wrongs and punish the evildoers for all they have done, He will be glorified.  No one will ask who is more powerful.  There will be no question to His authority over all.  His glory will no longer be hidden behind the timetables of mercy and patience.  He will be revealed in all of His glory.

To be sure, every place on this earth will be filled with the knowledge of His glory.  Every heart, every mind, and every soul will know.  Even the rocks and rivers, though they have always known, will become reacquainted with the fullness of His glory.  Evil will no longer win.  Injustice will be eclipsed by His final justice.  The question is we will know His glory through the goodness we have experienced or will we know His glory through the wrath He brings to those who do not acknowledge Him in their hearts as the King of Glory?

Let us live daily and encourage others to also live on the right side of His glory.  The pinnacle of His glory will be seen as those who have done evil, justified injustice, and given permission to darkness will rise on the wings of eagles covered by the blood of the Lamb of God.  The blackness of their sin will have been forgotten and replaced by the Light of His glorious salvation.  Every soul will one day live forever in the light of His highest glory or die forever in the darkest shadows of His glory.  None will escape.  The Glory of God will fill to overflowing both Light and Darkness.  Let us all choose the light and be on the right side of His Glory.
