Who is Jesus?

It is amazing that the person with the most recognized name in history is still so mysterious.  Some say that He was a prophet.  Others say that He was a teacher.  Still others say that He was a fake.  I would say that He is the Son of God.  He is in the middle of every major religion but to each religion He is something different.  We really only have the history of His last three years of life on this earth, but what an impact He made on the world in just three short years.  Who is this man Jesus?

I could take you down a very Biblical journey and reveal to you that He is the Christ, but we would have to use the Bible.  Since the Bible has predetermined that He is the Son of God one might say that it proves nothing.  It would be like the boy with melted chocolate chips around his mouth vouching that no one stole a cookie from the cookie jar.  So, let’s follow up on Trevor’s sermon last week where He proved the existence of God, not from Biblical evidence, but logical philosophy.

He claimed to be God.  This was his crime that landed Him on the cross.  Let’s suppose for a moment that He was not the Son of God.  If not, then He was a liar.  Yet all He would have had to do to avoid crucifixion is to say that He was not the Son of God.  What kind of person would hold on to a lie through the floggings, beatings, ripped out beard, a flesh-driven crown of thorns, humility and shame?  That would just be crazy.  So let’s suppose for a moment that He was just a crazy man.  After all, a person would have to be crazy to hold on to a lie through all of that.  But if Jesus was just a crazy, out of his mind lunatic, does it make sense that He has affected all of the world and that He is a major figure in every major religion.  And they do not include Jesus in their religion as a lunatic, but as a wise man, prophet, teacher, rabbi, or Son of God.  It just doesn’t seem likely that the world would be changed through the lunacy of one man too crazy or too proud to escape the cross.  So what is the only explanation? It is that He is the Christ.  He has fulfilled hundreds and hundreds of prophecies written thousands of years before His birth.  He was not a Liar.  He was not insane.  He is the Son of God
